For Muhammad, supporting his children's education has always been a priority. As a father of five, he understands the value of giving children a strong start, which is why Head Start has been a part of his family's journey for years.
Today, his son Mehkai is thriving in Head Start. The early education program has helped Mehkai learn his ABCs, count, write his name, and build friendships with other children. The program has grown Mehkai’s social and emotional skills, helping him embrace his role as a caring big brother to his little sister, Imani. At home, he helps her practice her letters and numbers. Muhammad hopes she'll join Early Head Start next year.
Muhammad's older children also attended the program, and he credits those early experiences with helping prepare them for success.
"Head Start allowed them to do early learning and also gave them the opportunity to socialize with other children," he said. "That's the best thing. It's the preparation."
Muhammad is a familiar face at his son's center. He regularly chaperones field trips and volunteers in the classroom because he wants to be actively involved in his children's learning. Last school year, his commitment earned him recognition as the program's Most Involved Father.
"By being involved, I can make sure my children are more respectful and more considerate in how they interact with other students," he said. "I'm always trying to do whatever I can to help them advance themselves."
Through his dedication, Muhammad is helping his children succeed today and showing them the value of commitment, learning, and family involvement. For his family, Head Start has been a foundation for growth, opportunity, and a brighter future.
