For Rhonda, life has been shaped by health challenges that limit her ability to work. Living with heart disease, diabetes, and the effects of a stroke, she relies on disability income, which makes it difficult to keep up with monthly bills. Despite her limitations, she volunteers whenever she can, determined to give back to her community.

When the cost of utilities became overwhelming, Rhonda turned to Step Forward’s Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP). While the process took time, she was ultimately approved, and the support made all the difference.

“Without it, I don’t know what I would do,” she shared.

The program provides consistency, covering payments so she doesn’t face the stress of unpredictable increases from one month to the next.

Living in an older Lakewood home that gets uncomfortably hot in the summer, this assistance isn’t just financial,it’s essential to her health and comfort.

“I’m very grateful,” Rhonda said. “It helps me stay safe in my home.”

For Rhonda, Step Forward has been a lifeline, helping her maintain stability and peace of mind during a difficult season. Her story shows the power of compassion and the difference that steady, reliable support can make.
